Adoption resources

We hope you'll decide we're the right family for your baby! If you do, we'll work together to choose an agency or lawyer to help finalize the adoption and make sure you have the support you need throughout the pregnancy and after the adoption.

But regardless of whether or not we're the family for your baby, we hope you'll find the support you need. Below are some resources that might be helpful.

I Choose Adoption

I Choose Adoption is a great resource from the National Council for Adoption. Their FAQ page is packed with great questions and answers.

Pregnancy Counseling

Almost all adoption agencies provide free counseling to birth parents considering adoption. If you find one in your area that you want to work with, and if we're the right adoptive family for your child, we will gladly work with that agency (even if you're not in Minnesota!). The important thing is that you feel comfortable and in control.

If you're in Minnesota, we think Adoption Minnesota does a great job. If you're outside of Minnesota, your state's department of human services should have a list of licensed agencies on their website.

Women's health clinics are also good resources for pregnancy counseling, although they may not be free.

Same-Sex Parenting

Wonder what the research says about same-sex parents? Check out the wikipedia page on same-sex parenting. Scientific research consistently shows that gay and lesbian parents are as fit and capable as heterosexual parents, and their children are as psychologically healthy and well-adjusted as those reared by heterosexual parents.

Biological and adopted children of lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) parents can find support from each other. COLAGE is one example of an organization that exists to unite and support people with LGBT parents.
